Scriptural Prayers for the Presidential Election

A lot at stakeThis list of prayers was sent to my wife by a good friend. I thought it might be helpful as you pray without ceasing for the election on November 6.

The Bible tells us that God sets up kings and God deposes kings. He is in control. (Daniel 2:20-22).

God is calling His people to “lift up holy hands without wrath and doubting” (1 Timothy 2:8) in prayer for the presidential election on November 6.  There is unlimited power in united prayer.  Pray with others whenever possible.  The power of prayer can overcome any obstacle or ungodly influence and, indeed, do great things!

If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, will heal their land.”

As we repent for ourselves and our nation (Acts 17:30), let us also pray that …

…  Christians will be motivated to pray faithfully for the election; that the Lord would deliver us from ungodly leaders. (Psalm 32:6-7)
… our nation will listen to the truth and not be led astray. (Proverbs 16:13)
… those who trust in the Lord will not be shaken. (Psalm 125)
… the Lord would defeat those who disregard Him in this election. (Psalm 86:14-17)
… the Lord would put His hands on the man of His choice (and his team) and guide them in this election. (II Kings 13:16)
… our nation and the man God has chosen will be discerning and do what is right. (Luke 12:54-57)
… the Lord would give wise counsel and guidance to the man He has chosen. (Psalm 16:7-8)
… God’s man will listen with discernment, add to his knowledge, and receive wise counsel in this campaign. (Proverbs 1:5-6)
… God’s man would be given wisdom and ability to overcome any obstacle or difficulty during this campaign. (John 16:33)
… God’s man will have supernatural strength and ability from God. (Philippians 4:13)
… the Lord would arm His man with strength, guide him in battle (this election), sustain him and give him victory. (Psalm 18:32-36)
… God’s man will have the faith to persevere and be courageous throughout the election. (Hebrews 11:32-34)
… the Lord would empower and enable His man in any area of weakness. (2 Corinthians 12:9)
… the Lord would do something that would utterly amaze us and give His servant victory. (Habakkuk 1:5 and 3:2)

THE BIG IF

For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.(James 4:15)

Rev. William Cook

Tomorrow is a GREAT BIG IF.  Tomorrow, “IF the lord wills.” (James 4:15) “The sun will come up tomorrow,” IF the Lord wills. My son will get married on Saturday, IF the Lord wills. Tomorrow I am starting a new job, IF the Lord wills. On November 6 we will elect a President, IF the Lord wills. “We’re gonna be rich!” IF the Lord wills.

All we really have is NOW.  NOW is the acceptable time. NOW is the time of God’s favor. NOW is the day of salvation. Now is the year of Jubilee. (Isaiah 49:8, Leviticus 25)

Shouldn’t we seek the Lord NOW, “while He may be found” and call upon Him NOW, “while He is near,” because here and now won’t last forever. A time will surely come for those who despise Wisdom’s counsel and reproof, who hate knowledge and reject the fear of the Lord, when inescapable calamity will overtake them and God will be not be near or accessible. He will be remote and inaccessible. (Proverbs 1:23-33, 1 Thessalonians 5:3). Those who refused Him in the here and NOW will call upon Him then, but He will not answer; they will seek Him early, but He will be unfindable.

Well, this is a fine mess we’re in. “What are we gonna do NOW?!” you ask?  I have a crazy idea, but it didn’t come from me because my perspective is limited. NOW are you ready for it?  I propose that “the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and … return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.” (Isaiah 54:7)

“That’s preposterous!” you say? Well I know it seems preposterous, but I AM lives in the here and NOW and “as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are the ways of I AM higher than our ways, and I AM’s thoughts than our thoughts.” (Isaiah 54:8-9)

Maybe we should do what I AM is saying NOW, while it is still called today? (Hebrews 3:13)
